KAMPAR, March 26 – Organised by the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Department of Public Relations joined hands with the Kampar District Council (MDKpr) and Perak state government, the WOW Kampar festival in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017, has finally come to an end.
The three-day festival held at Sports @ Grand Kampar started from March 24 to 26 attracted more than 50,000 visitors. While during the first day of the event, it already recorded nearly 21,000 visits.
More than 60 booths were set up, selling delicious cuisines, beverages and garments. The other activities may include drawing competition, eaters contest, hair and blood donations, health examination, basketball competition and so forth.

Meanwhile, the big eaters’ competition sponsored by Wing Zone Kampar attracted 50 people to participate.
The competition divided into five groups with each group consist of ten contestants.
Teh Chia Wei, 21, the winner of the first match, took only one minute 31 seconds to finish ten pieces of extremely hot and spicy wings.
Teh who, at a young age, used to taking care of his parents’ the grocery store said, “When I was a child, I was given only five minutes to finish my lunchbox because there were many customers in the store waiting to be served.” He continued “Perhaps I am trained from that.”
Loo Chee Yong, 21, finished the wings at two minutes and seven seconds.
“I am here to support my wife,” said Ho Chee Chong, 52, who brought his two children to support Samira, 36, who participate in the wings big eater competition.
“It was certainly a great experience,” praised Ho, though his spicy food lover wife did not win the RM 20 voucher sponsored by Wing Zone.
The winner of each match will be rewarded RM 20 cash voucher. While the overall winner of the final battle between the winners of each match will be rewarded RM 100 cash voucher.

Despite the heavy downpour, many visitors were seen immersing themselves in the indoor activities.
“My family and I enjoyed the festival very much,” said Kong Kar Chuan, 35, who came all the way from Tapah. “Especially the traditional Chinese medical examination,” Kong continued.
“Hopefully similar event will be conducted in the future,” added Kong later.
Besides, the event has invited Dato’ Lee Chee Leong, the Deputy Finance Minister to preside over the closing ceremony.
Lee, in his closing remark, expressed his belief that the event surely will contribute to the economy of Kampar, at the same time enhance the reputation of the destination specifically in the tourism industry.
Other than Lee, the closing ceremony also invited Yang Di Pertua MDKpr Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir as well as Dean of UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Dr Alia Azalea.
