IPOH: The Barisan Nasional line-up for the next general election in Perak will include more new faces, said Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
He said that these potential candidates were already being evaluated and the “right candidates would be well-liked by the people.”
The Perak Umno chief added that Barisan was vetting the list together with state leaders of the other Barisan component parties.
“We will hold meetings from time-to-time to look into all the criteria until the name list is finalised. The most important thing is for us to ensure that we’re selecting the right candidates to represent Barisan in the next general election,” he said.
He added that some veterans had declined to be candidates.
“Many of them have said that they think they should focus on other matters like their families as they’ve been in politics for a long time,” said Dr Zambry.
He added that Perak was ready for the next general elections and expected the polls to be called less than a year from now.
Dr Zambry said that the most urgent thing for all component parties to do was to step up their efforts in the constituencies they planned to contest in.
